SOUNDSCAPE

Soundscape is a theme that tring to approach different aspect of sensory in design, and the project focus on deconstructing sound into three parts, ‘space’, ‘time’ and ‘memory’. The finished project was presented as a designing exhibition which following the method we made.
"SPACE"
The research of space refered to a published work by Bernhard Leitner : Sound Spaces Manifesto. It declaims that when several speakers speaking at the same time, there is a connection between the sound, and the connection creates "hearing space". Furthermore, the speakers arranged in different ways create different space.
Base to this manifesto, we try to record a few sound in the plaza of college. The sounds we recorded can be categorized in to three categories, environment sounds, faunas’ sounds and sounds of human.
To display the space of recorded sound, the drawing indicated teh connections between them. The databases basically represant several key elements of space, environmental sound decide the free-flowing shape, faunas’ sounds present as the high levels, and the sounds of human activities define the character of spaces in the project.
"TIME"
Time is about the feeling of dinamic of sound, and represent by procedure of the level of light.
The sound was recorded of site for 24hrs, and to analysis the pitch, volume and diversity. Furthermore, the result was arranged to a soundscape score, and translateed the density of light, which people can sense when they wandering in the project.
The light effect was definded by the layers of PVC filters, which can reflect the some lights, and also let some penetrate at the same time.
The structures was shaped by multi-hexagons metal with free form
The size of hexagons are about 2 meters, means that people can feel the light changed in several steps. In this case, the project is full of dynamic light and time theme of soundscape.

"MEMORY"
Sounds and memories are deeply connected, and the project tring to replicate the collective memory of all college members. Recalling the memory as an exhibition not only make it profound, also let people experience different aspect of memory.The sounds of memory was categorized into four different typical themes: railroad, bell tower, Christmas and night market.
